about

This project, as well as this album, has been something I’ve kicked around in my mind for a while. I was very obviously and unashamedly influenced by Stephen Mlinarcik of Call Me Constant creating a similar ambient remix, called Ad Diem Tendo. Like that album, all of the songs are wrecked versions of completed songs. Unlike that album, none of the songs were written by me. All of the bands that I participate in regularly, but don’t write the songs for, have decently sized discographies, so I picked my favorite song that seemed like it would lend itself to the project nicely, and then picked my favorite lyric as a name for the ‘new song’.
Although it was tempting to get into the stems (since I recorded all of the songs that I used), I decided to work completely with the finished product to give myself some kind of limitation and a ’stopping point’ so I wouldn’t take way too much time on this. Usually, I would start by slowing down the original recording around 600%, sometimes more. I’d then run it through a variation of numerous effect pedals and processes. After the song was fairly unrecognizable, I’d mess it around a little more by chopping up the song into sizable chunks and layering and removing parts to make a dissolving feel. Sometimes, the songs feel like they’re about to fall apart, and sometimes, it’s nothing more than a wash of noise, but it was a fun experiment that yielded interesting results, at the very least, and goes well as a sleep aid or a stoned evening hour.
